Trumps In Space

Donald Trump said he wants a new Military arm for space, are we expecting an alien invasion?

Probably not.

With the Air Force Space Command already up and running, it’s hard to see any reasoning behind this new rhetoric.

Every President since the cold war has announced some sort of space program, Trump is just saying -in one ridiculous foul swoop- exactly what his constituents want to hear, “more military spending” and “we’re going to the moon”.

Trump’s own defence secretary stated “You can emphasise more help for the military in space without going to the massive organisational change and expense.”

The countless communication, navigation, weather and reconnaissance satellites in orbit would be in absolute jeopardy if a ‘space war’ were to break out. Insane.

I am dumbfounded at the need to have battles on Earth let alone outside of the damn stratosphere.

Though space laser battles are super cool, I just don’t know how detrimental they are to our survival as a species.

What is seen as detrimental to the survival of our species though, is a dedicated space program.

Trump did sign one at the end of 2017 which outlines “an innovative and sustainable program of exploration with commercial and international partners to enable human expansion across the solar system and to bring back to Earth new knowledge and opportunities”

Presidents and space is about as old a concept as pigs in space, but Trumps new declaration is not another half-brained idea of his, because it is not his and it’s not half brained.

Mike Rogers, the Strategic Forces Subcommittee chairman proposed a space corps in 2017, this would “keep the United States ahead of rival nations like Russia and China”

Frankly, The United States needs to spend more money on space to stay in control. This is to ensure the continuance and reliability of important military and commercial information that the American space program is sending to earth.

The question the American government was really asking themselves is, How much money should we stake on space to stay ahead of our contenders without starting an arms race?

Trump, tactful and elegant, threw that idea out the window and stated that America will create the worlds first army dedicated to space.

It’s not a bad idea to be truthful, but as to form, this rhetoric was as brash as it was harmful.
